Revenge of the Iron Lich: Alternate Spells

To commemorate the 1 year anniversary of Revenge of the Iron Lich, here is an alternate spell list for the Iron Lich and its closest advisers, the Congregation of Lich Necromancers. These are designed as power swaps, meant to replace the indicated spells from the original Revenge of Lich with alternatives that present the dungeoneers with new challenges and increase the replayability and unpredictability of the original adventure. Many of the spells' effects were chosen to mimic the overall effects of the original design, but in a new and interesting way.


Congregation of Lich Necromancers                      

Swap Enervating Tendrils with:
STANDARD ACTIONS
Summon Demon + Encounter
Effect: A balor (Monster Vault) appears and attacks the party. It disappears at the end of its third round of combat.
  

Iron Lich Necrolith                                                         

Swap Tumblemines with:
STANDARD ACTIONS
c Nailgun Barrage + At-Will (1/round)
Effect: The Iron Lich Necrolith makes the following attack twice.
Attack: Close line 10 (creatures in line);
               +23 vs. AC
Hit: 2d12+19 damage, and the target is pushed 2 square and knocked prone. If the target cannot be pushed 2 squares due to blocking terrain, the target is restrained until escape (escape DC 32).
Miss: Half damage.

Swap Rusting Gas with:
MINOR ACTIONS
r Entomb + Recharge 56
Attack: Ranged 10 (one creature);
               +23 vs. Fortitude
Hit: A slab of stone erupts from the ground beneath the target and entombs the target. While entombed, the target is restrained and makes a death saving throw at the start of each turn. The target is no longer entombed and the slab of stone is destroyed if the slab of stone takes a total of 50 damage (AC 16; Fort 16, Reflex 6).
Miss: Half damage.

Decrease Speed to 2 and swap Body Spike Ejection with:
TRIGGERED ACTIONS
Countdown to Annihilation + Encounter
Trigger: The Iron Lich Necrolith enters the center of the Mithril Gear.
Effect (No Action): All living creatures in the dungeon die.

Swap Razorjack with:
MINOR ACTIONS
a Sinkhole (acid, zone) + Recharge 456
Effect: The burst creates a 50 ft. (10 square) deep pit with acid coated walls until the end of the encounter. Creatures falling into the pit are knocked prone, take 5d10 falling damage and 25 acid damage. Creatures attempting to climb the walls must succeed on a DC 24 Athletics check and take 25 acid damage.
Attack: Area burst 1 within 5 (creatures in burst); +23 vs. Reflex
Hit: The target falls into the pit created by the power.
Miss: The target is knocked prone and slides to the nearest unoccupied square adjacent to the pit created by this power.



Iron Lich                                                                              

Swap Curse of Life with:
MINOR ACTIONS
r Steel  to Flesh (polymorph) + At-Will
Attack: Ranged 20 (one creature); +24 vs. Will
Hit: Until the end of the encounter, one metal item held by the target is transformed into hideous, pus-oozing flesh and can no longer be used.
Effect: The Iron Lich consumes a trapped soul.

Swap Chain Blightning with:
STANDARD ACTIONS
c Ray of Disintegration + Recharge when first bloodied
Attack: Close line 10 (creatures in line);
              +24 vs. Reflex
Hit: The target dies and all of its equipment is destroyed.
Miss: The target takes ongoing 50 damage (save ends).
Special: The Iron Lich may consume one trapped soul to apply a -5 penalty to the saving throws against this effect.

Swap Power Word: Kill with:
MINOR ACTIONS
c Power Word: Blind + Encounter
Attack: Close blast 10 (creatures in blast);
              +24 vs. Will
Hit: The target is blind (no save).
Miss: The target is blind (save ends).

Swap Armored Lich with:
MINOR ACTIONS
c Dispel Magic + At-Will
Effect: One zone or conjuration within 20 squares is destroyed. The Iron Lich may consume a trapped soul to gain 120 temporary hit points.

Swap Life to Unlife with:
MINOR ACTIONS
c Steal Magic (psychic) + Recharge 456
Attack: Ranged 10 (one creature); +24 vs. Will
Hit: 3d6+16 psychic damage, and the target is stunned (save ends).
Effect: Until the end of the encounter, the target loses the use of one arcane or divine power. The Iron Lich then uses that power as a free action as if he had cast it, using the ability scores and modifiers of the target.

Swap Rage of Iron, Tears of Rust with:
STANDARD ACTIONS
Time Stop + Encounter
Effect: Each creature within 20 squares is stunned (save ends) and remains stunned until all targets have made a successful saving throw against this effect.

  2. Loving the alternative powers here, and am probably going to be throwing Revenge of the Iron Lich at my party in the near future.
